Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation. Removing the outermost layers of dead skin cells using a scalpel to gently scrape away revealing a smoother, brighter complexion. Favoured by celebs, specifically models & actresses. Why? It eliminates ‘peach fuzz’ that cakes makeup enhanced by harsh lighting and high def cameras. It allows greater delivery & penetration of skincare products thus creating a perfect canvas for makeup to glide on…

Dermaplaning is for all skin types, though should be avoided by those with active acne. If you have cystic acne wait until breakouts clear before Dermaplaning.

This is a fabulous treatment during pregnancy/nursing and want exfoliation without the risk of harsh chemicals being absorbed potentially harming your baby.

What are the benefits?

You’ll immediately look more radiant with a more even brighter skin tone. All your peach fuzz will be gone. First timers say their skin has never felt so soft! Long term effects are increased cell turnover, fewer wrinkles and dark spots. Lines appear finer. Improved pore size. Superficial pigmentation reduced. Acne scaring reduced. Collagen stimulated and removal in fine facial hair. The delivery of products ie: Active acids and treatments such as laser are more effective.

Old wives tale!

Many women are concerned that shaving peach fuzz will make it grow back thicker & darker. Superficial vellus hair (face fuzz) is clear or white soft fine hair & will grow back with the same rate and texture prior to treatment.

How is Dermaplaning done?

Dermaplaning is a painless procedure compared to the sensation of shaving. Your therapist will cleanse & dry your skin. Your skin held taut with one hand, holding a blade in the other hand using short strokes to gently scrape off the dead skin cells and peach fuzz.

What are the side effects of Dermaplaning?

There are no side effects and no downtime. After the treatment your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure and may appear quite pink. A high SPF 30+ is recommended to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation. Post treatment aftercare will be provided by your therapist.

Dermaplaning versus Diamond Peel?

At The Vault we also offer Diamond Peel. They are both methods of physical exfoliation, but the methods are very different. Diamond peeling sands & suctions dead skin cells, uprooting clogged pores around the nose, mouth and chin. Dermaplaning safely scrapes off the top layer of skin, more suited to dryer skin types and anyone who wants rid of peach fuzz. Both methods are great for almost anyone, personal preference!
